Iran’s short ‘The Other’ to vie in Serbia

Iranian short ‘The Other’ is to compete at the 13th Küstendorf film festival in Serbia.

Iran’s short ‘The Other’ has been selected to compete at the 13th International Film and Music Festival Küstendorf in Serbia.

Directed by Saman Hosseinpour and Ako Zand-karimi (aka Samko brothers), the short is about a man who thinks another man has stolen his life.

According to the festival’s website, the short which is a co-production of Iran and India narrates the story of “a religious and traditional man who after his wife’s death, suspects her and he thinks she had a relationship with another man. His condition becomes critical when he suspects that her daughter belongs to the other man”.

The cast members are Majid Potki, Shenia Mozaffarian, and Mohammad Kermanshahi.

‘The Other’ has recently participated at the 36th Tehran International Short Film Festival and garnered the second prize of the Book and Cinema section.

The short is Iran’s only representative at the fest and will compete with 20 other short titles from Ukraine, Switzerland, Greece,  Spain, Poland, Romania, Bulgaria, Belarus, Russia,  France, Serbia, China, Hungary, and Croatia.

The directors participated at the previous edition of the same festival with a short film titled ‘Slaughter’.

It’s worth mentioning that Iranian famous directors, Asghar Farhadi and Abbas Kiarostami, have also participated at the previous editions of the Serbian festival respectively in 2010 and 2011.

Iranian popular actress Leila Hatami was a jury member of the festival in 2012.

The Küstendorf focuses on emerging filmmakers and the great names of the world of cinema. It brings together the best of short films and makes an opportunity to exchange information.

The 13th edition of the event is slated for January 13-18, 2020.
